The Jing Institute, based in Brighton, is the UK’s leading provider of advanced massage training. They offer accredited qualifications up to BTEC level 6. Meg and Rachel, along with Andrew at Soft Octopus, asked me to redevelop their website.

This is quite an ambitious WordPress implementation! It mashes up two different themes, with a heavily-customised homepage. It includes customised plugins for course management and for therapist registration; it links course bookings with Paypal; and it ticks all the right boxes for SEO. It’s a great example of just how much can be achieved using WordPress.

LMH Web Channels

This website is a really effective collaboration with John Scotland (video) and Soft Octopus Design Studio (graphic design). Video content hosted on the LMHTV platform is filtered to provide an interactive documentary of each renovation project. This is the first of a network of WordPress sites which Liverpool Mutual Homes will be using to showcase their work.

Urban Canvas

Philip and Catherine asked me to work with them on a replacement for the trusty website they’d built themselves.

We worked hard on getting the site navigation and functionality just right, and by identifying a pre-built theme which looked right out-of-the-box, I was able to deliver everything they were after within budget.

Liverpool Irish Festival

For the third year in a row, Liverpool Irish Festival asked me to build on the previous year’s website and improve it further.

With an excellent framework theme behind the scenes, and some upgraded plugins, I gave them a real boost in both look and functionality.

Soft Octopus

Andrew needed to update his website and move things around a bit, but it was proving difficult to get things changed as quickly as he’d have liked. So he asked for my help.

I took over hosting the site from the previous developer, and quickly found out how the site worked, so that I could update the site and make the changes Andrew needed to the layout and structure.

A year later, Andrew wanted to add a blog to his website. I recommended a WordPress theme which would fit the look of his site, and customised it to integrate seamlessly within his (non-WordPress) website.

Nolan Lab

This site was built for a prestigious neuroscience lab at Edinburgh University.

A clean, simple look was paramount. I found a really elegant theme to base this on, customised it quite heavily and then created some custom shortcodes and a bespoke page template, allowing Matt to add content without having to worry about formatting.

Lastly, the site needed to be deployed on a University server, and I worked with technical staff there to ensure the site’s installation met everybody’s technical criteria.

Design Industry

With extensive customisation, this is barely recognisable as a WordPress-based site. I worked closely with Heather on all aspects of her website, carefully defining image formats and working through several possible homepage designs.

The Florrie

This website is developing as a portal for the video content being produced to document the restoration project at The Florence Institute, Toxteth. Various categories of video content are presented in a simple, attractive way to build the concept of an “interactive documentary”.

A nice, simple website using an elegant, free theme. I produced this website for Sheffield University’s Student Law Society quickly and cheaply. Its professional look is anchored by the new logo, designed by Soft Octopus.

This is a good example of the kind of site which my £200 startup package could deliver. Anthony provided all of the content and photography himself. With a little stardust from Soft Octopus, I adapted the standard WordPress theme to reflect the fresh image he wished to project.
